WILSON’S CELEBRATE 97TH
ANNUAL REUNION IN MORAVIA PARK
The 97th Annual Wilson Reunion was held Sunday, August 13, 2006 in the Moravia City Park, Moravia, Iowa. A traditional carry-in meal was served shortly after the noon whistle.
Election of officers was not held. This year’s slate of officers is: Rhea Wilson, President; Keith Hanson, Vice President; Marla Wilson-Batterson, Treasurer; and Kerry Wilson, Secretary. The officers will serve for three more years. Following a brief business meeting and treasurer’s report attendees participated in horseshoe and cribbage tournaments. Ice Cream was served for desert at 2:00 P.M.
Reports
Lavern Gaylord passed away September 4, 2005; Carrie Gaylord married Donald Noorlun July 3, 2005, and gave birth to Gavin Noorlun on February 5, 2005. Alicia Gaylord gave birth to Tre' Gaylord July 29, 2005. Adda Lou Gaylord reports that she will be unable to attend the 2006 Reunion, but is making plans to attend the 2007 Reunion. The Gaylord’s are the descendents of the late Leonard and Wilda Wilson of Seymour, IA. Annabelle Wilson could not attend due to a recent Illness. Mary Ann Wilson is in Waterloo, IA attending the affairs of her mother who passed away on August 6, 2006, and could not attend. Tom Wilson is at home in Lilburn, GA, and could not attend due to the Chemo treatment he is receiving for cancer. Tom Wilson is a son of the late Leonard and Wilda Wilson of Seymour, IA. Brandi Denise Hansen married Chad Eric Hatfield December 18, 2002. Alexandria Hatfield born to Brandi and Chad Hatfield August 31, 2005. Chad Hatfield passed away March 22, 2006. Brian Hansen born to Fred Wayne Hansen January 25, 2005. Brandi and Fred are Diane Coles Conner’s daughter and son and are the descendants of Ted Wilson and Mildred and Dean Coles. Mildred and Dean Coles were unable to attend, due to age and illness. They are living in an assisted living facility in Des Moines. Brennan Andrew Moritz born to Juliana and Andrew Moritz in Los Angeles, CA., October 10, 2005, descendants of Vivian Wright and Dana and Glenn Moritz. Henry & Sharon Moritz could not attend this year, because they have recently moved. Brian and Amy Wilson report the birth of Abigail (Abby) Ann Wilson was born October 3, 2005. Brian and Abby are descendents of Leonard and Wilda Wilson.
Bill Rains reports, "I appreciate the notification about the Wilson Family Reunion. We will be unable to attend this year, however, I am now retired and expect to travel more, including another visit to Moravia and the Wilson reunion. My grandkids still talk about the 1999 reunion and the history they learned about our family and the wonderful people they met. Have a grand time and wish we could be with you."

About the Wilson Reunion
Jesse and Miram Wilson, the patriarch and matriarch of this Wilson Clan moved to Moravia in 1857 from North Carolina. They had seven children: Nathan, Abel, Mary, Rachel, Ephriam, John and Martha. Rachel married and was moving away from Moravia in August 1910 to homestead in Wyoming, so the family was called together for a reunion. The 1910 gathering started a tradition that had been carried on for 96 years. The reunion was held at Miriam’s farm for several years. It was held at the home of the children for several years. It has been held at the Moravia City Park since the 1950’s. The reunion is always held on the Sunday closest to the 16th of August, which was Miram’s birthday, and is still held within 5 miles of its original location.

Upcoming: 100th
Reunion
Plans are underway for a special celebration to mark the 100th reunion, which will be held Sunday August 16, 2009. The slate of officers elected last year will also serve as a committee for the 100th Reunion. The 100th Reunion will be a 2-day event, which will include camping at Lake Rathbun on Saturday, concluding with the traditional dinner and celebration at the Moravia City Park on Sunday.
