Chapter "N Director's News:

Hello,

Our annual chili cook-off at Palisades Park was a huge success ! We had 53 chapter N participants in attendance. I think this was a record for our Chili Dinner. We would like to thank everyone who brought food and drinks and also congratulate our chili cookoff winners, 1st place Joyce Wilson, 2nd place Virgie Banks, 3rd place Sandra Irwin. We sure are glad we didn't have to be judges. All the food was great and getting to spend time with all of our chapter friends was priceless. This event has turned out to be one of our favorite things to do and we look forward to doing it again next year.

The Alabama rally is fast approaching so if you haven't registered you need to do so. Let's try to take as many chapter n folks as we can. We will be working in the hospitality room on Friday so if you can help please let us know. This really is a fun job and you get to meet lots of good people not to mention free drinks and snacks. We hope everyone will go and support our couple of the year Rick & Laura Brothers, who will be competition for the District Couple Of The Year. There will be other events to participate in and if you would like more information get in contact with us. There is going to be a talent contest on Friday night hosted by Donnie & Charlotte Mardis. We are sure chapter N has some talent hidden somewhere, This would be a great time to bring it out. This is shaping up to be a fun rally and we hope that you will attend. Also we will be needing to take door prizes so if you have any please bring them.

Spring is just around the corner with it will bring good riding weather (hopefully). So now is the time to get your bike ready. We have our annual maintenance day coming up in March at Butch & Diane Harris house. If there is anything you need to do to your bike this would be a good time and place to do it. Our technical coordinator Butch Harris will be on hand to provide his knowledge and assistance in any way possible. And hopefully at a reasonable rate ( free, right Butch). Also in March, we are starting back our friday night rides so check your calender for the dates. With good riding weather comming soon, there is a lot of fun ahead for you and your chapter n friends.                                                 Ride Safe

Chapter "N" Assistant Director's News
We have come to the end of another month for Chapter N.  We had a great group for our Chapter Meeting on February 1.  Chapter N is growing every month.  Welcome to all our new members!
Our annual chili cook-off was held on February 14 at Palisades Park.  A good time was had by all and not one person left hungry.  We continue to marvel at all our excellent cooks.  Thanks go out to Wayne and Liz for entertaining us with their “Red Neck Valentine” presentation.
On Saturday the 29th, 27 folks enjoyed a Dinner Ride to the Top of the River in Guntersville.  The weather was beautiful and most of us were able to ride our bikes to dinner.  When we arrived at the restaurant, we were surprised by members of Chapters B and I who had driven down for a great catfish meal as well!
We have two important events planned for March.  On the Saturday, 13th we will have our annual Tech day, organized by Butch and Diane Harris. This gives all of us the opportunity to inspect our bikes and gain knowledge from more experienced riders.   Rick and Laura Brothers have planned a parking lot drill for Saturday, March 27.  The riders and co-riders will have an opportunity to practice skills on the bikes.  In addition, the co-rider tape will be shown.  Be sure to come out in support of these two important events – and get prepared to RIDE!

Safety

SPRING PARKING LOT DRILLS

Your skills are good. You ride every week. Last year you took Experienced Rider Course. Turning around in the street, two-up, is a breeze. And you do your SIPDE so well, watching 12-15 seconds ahead, that you can't remember the last time you had to do an emergency braking or swerving maneuver. (And you remembered that SIPDE stands for Scan – Identify – Predict – Decide – Execute!) But perhaps the problem is that you are so good at avoiding using emergency maneuvers that you're out of practice. If you ride properly, you don't get to practice some of your skills on the street. That doesn't mean you should let them deteriorate until the next time you take a rider course.

That's why they make parking lots. And you thought those painted yellow lines were just there to corral the cars. Their real purpose is to provide a marked area to practice so you can keep all your skills sharp--not just the ones you use every day. The same skills which degrade in a few months can be retuned in a few minutes of practice.

Quick stops are easy to practice on a good parking lot with a good surface. Bring your speed up to 15-20 mph, look at a distant object straight ahead, and squeeze the front brake while you press on the rear brake. You squeeze quickly, progressively and hard. Do not grab the front brake. If you keep the speed the same for several tries while you start braking at the same yellow line, you can measure your progress. Now comes the fun part-swerving around an object. Try swerving around an eight-foot wide obstruction at 15 mph. Remember, do not brake or downshift while swerving.

Once you bring these two skills up to par, it's time to put them together. Quick stops on a curve require you to (1) straighten up before you (2) brake hard to stop. Let's look at that order again. First press on the handlebar near the outside of the curve. (If you're turning right, press left.) Press until the bike is completely vertical. Be sure to straighten the handlebars as the bike straightens up. Once you are straight, all your traction is available for stopping. Look at a distant object straight ahead, and quickly and progressively squeeze the front brake while you press on the rear brake. You have just put two skills (swerving and stopping) together (but not too closely) to practice quick stops on a curve. Now you're ready to go out and face the world again, much better prepared than when you rode into that parking lot.

We will be practicing these skills and more during our spring parking lot drills this month. It will be a good time to practice these manuveurs while riding both 1-up and 2-up. We will also have a time for viewing the Co-rider video for anyone who would be interested or who has not been to the seminar. Please feel free to invite your riding friends to this event.

REDNECK VALENTINE

Collards is green, When you hold me real tight

My dog’s name is Blue like a padded gun rack,

And I’m so lucky my life is complete;

To have a sweet thang like you. Ain’t nuttin’ I lack.

Yore hair is like corn silk Yore complexion, it’s perfection,

A flapping in the breeze. Like the best vinyl sidin’.

Softer than Blue’s Despite all the years,

And without all them fleas. Yore age, it keeps hidin’.

You move like the bass, Me ‘n’ you’s like a Moon Pie

Which excite me in May. With a RC cold drank,

You ain’t got no scales we go together

But I luv you anyway. Like a skunk goes with stank.

Yo’re as satisfy’n as okry Some men, they buy chocolate

Jist a fry’n in the pan. For Valentine’s Day;

Yo’re as fragrant as "snuff" They git it at Wal-Mart,

Right out of the can. It’s romantic that way.

You have some’a yore teeth, Some men git roses

For which I am proud: on that special day,

I hold my head high from the cooler at Kroger,

When we’re in a crowd. "That’s impressive", I say.

On special occasions, Some men buy fine diamonds

When you shave under yore arms, from a flea market booth.

Well, I’m in hawg heaven, "Diamonds are forever,"

And awed by yore charms. They explain, suave and couth.

Still them fellers at work, But for this man honey,

They all want to know, these won’t do.

What I did to deserve Cause yor’e too special,

Such a purdy, young doe. You sweet thang you.

Like a good roll of duct tape I got you a gift,

Yo’re there fer yore man, without taste nor odor,

To patch up life’s troubles more useful than diamonds…

And fix what you can. IT’S A NEW TROLL’N MOTOR!!!

Yo’re as cute as a june bug (Actually, It was a wooden paddle. She don’t like

A buzzin’ overhead. most candy in valentine boxes, so I gave her a bag of

You ain’t mean like those far ants her favorites, Gold Hershey Kisses. I explained to the

I found in my bed. Group that she likes MALE candy, and she said out

Loud "yeah, they’ve got nuts." After she returned to

Cut from the best cloth her normal color, I gave her a cuddly teddy bear.)

Like a plaid flannel shirt,

You spark up my life

More than a fresh load of dirt.
