The Schuyler R-1 High School, Lancaster, MO Lancaster School Building as we remember it as it appeared in 1999. The building is now being torn down. The class of 1973 was the last class to graduate from this unit that had attended this facility from first grade thru the 12th grade. In 1961, after this class attended first grade, the school board began consolidation, and the lower grades attended Glenwood. This class was not moved to Glenwood, and they stayed in this building all 12 years. Thus, this building has a special place in the hearts of each graduate, especially the class mates that attended school in this building for 12 years. They started school there. They finished school there. In between, they experienced moments of triumph and defeat. Joy and sadness. Proms and games. The news of John F. Kennedy's assassination was announced to them when they were in the third grade in the basement of this building. They also experienced crazy times like Donkey Basketball, and the time the Cherry Bomb went off in the boy's restroom during Biology Class, and some guy came running out with his pants around his ankles. Yes, those were the days. They could never be repeated, or duplicated. We are proud to be from Lancaster, Missouri, and to have attended Schuyler R-1 High School. There is no better place on earth to have been raised. School days are over - that's a fact. But, we are still a CLASS. We are close knit. The threads that bind us are the gentle rolling hills and farm land of North East Missouri, the towns of Downing, Lancaster, Glenwood, and Coatesville Missouri, and this building. These things are a part of us, and we are a part of them. They may tear it down, but it will always stand tall and proud, in our hearts and minds, and in the pages of this web site. As we go through life, we will not forget it, but to be sure, we have pledged to assemble ourselves once every five years for the rest of our lives, and celebrate Schuyler R-1 High School, and the Lancaster Building, and The Class of 1973 - The Greatest Class Ever!
This is the way the building still appeared in 1999.

This is the way it appeared a short time later:
So sad!
